The meaning behind Theadora

Theadora Customs: Named after the woman who built me first.

Everything I know about strength, I learned from my grandmother, Theadora. She was a first-generation American, the daughter of a girl who crossed the ocean from Russia at just 14, completely alone. That courage lived on in her. She could be stern and stubborn, and she always expected things done right, but behind it was the biggest heart I’ve ever known. She turned her own home into a place of care, running her own company and looking after people around the clock as if they were family. I can still hear her saying, “Character is what you do when no one is looking.” I’ve carried those words with me ever since.

The values I live by today came from her, and she taught them by example, not with words. She was hard-working, disciplined and resilient, and she never backed away from a hard day. She did the difficult things, the exhausting things, the things other people avoided, simply because they needed to be done. Watching her, I learned that grit isn’t loud. It’s getting up and doing what’s right, especially when it’s hard. That’s the strength she gave me, and it’s the strength I bring to every job.

She is no longer with us, but her words are the foundation of this company. So much of what matters in a building ends up hidden: the framing behind the drywall, the waterproofing under the tile, the details no one will ever notice. We build those parts with the same care as everything else, because that’s where character lives. Theadora Customs carries her name because she built me first, and every home and building we finish is meant to honor her: strong, honest, and built with heart.
